Get your free eBook on the State of PCA Pastors

The challenges of pastoring in the 21st century are significant. How are PCA pastors actually doing—spiritually, maritally, relationally, financially? Are they struggling or thriving?

Download this free eBook to learn the concrete practices, conditions, and choices that prevent and promote wellbeing.

We surveyed nearly 900 PCA pastors. What we learned was both encouraging and alarming.

Using research from pastoral surveys and in-depth interviews, Pastoral Wellbeing reveals where PCA leaders are most in need of healing and encouragement and offers practical counsel for pastors (and those who love them) who are seeking greater health as they continue to answer God’s call.

We interviewed pastors about:

  • Their own mental, physical, financial, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing
  • The health of their relationships with family and church members
  • Their support system, including mentors, friends, and fellow ministers

70%

of pastors say the demands of ministry inhibit or challenge their spiritual maturity.

50%

of pastors struggle to experience intimacy with Jesus and rarely receive care from his Body.

51%

of pastors’ wives are not thriving due to pressure of the role.

SUPPORT SYSTEMS

“It feels like it’s a matter of time before something tragic happens or I go out of ministry. It feels like half of the ministers that I’ve ever known are out, whether that’s a moral failure or they just burned out…And I want to know, do I have the longevity for this? Do I have the resilience? Because it doesn’t seem like most do.”
